National Women'S Day 2024 South African Flag. South africa’s national women’s day is a public holiday commemorating the 1956 march of some 20,000 women to the union buildings in pretoria. We also pay tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the union buildings on 9 august 1956 in protest against the extension of pass laws to women.
